•A boy killed by the policeman An anti-riot policeman, Corporal Aliyu Hamisu, reportedly shot his colleague, Joshua Mathew, dead at a bank in Zaria, Kaduna State on Friday. He also killed a young boy who was at the bank to withdraw money from an ATM and an Okada rider. The circumstances behind the incident were hazy, but it was learnt that Hamisu and Mathew, a sergeant got into an argument which led to the former shooting the latter and two others. There are different versions of the incident. While one version said Hamisu shot at Mathew, another version said it was the other way round. But the News Agency of Nigeria reported that the quarrel between the two officers ensued following a discovery that the sergeant had been short-changing the corporal. Northern City News gathered that Hamisu was shot on the legs by other policemen at the bank and subsequently mobbed by the crowd. The incident caused pandemonium in the area and forced the bank to hurriedly shut down its operat

  THE COLLAPSED MARKET IN ONNA Two market women have died and 17 injured in a collapsed wall of Urua (market) Ederebo in Ikot Akpatek in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, hometown of the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. An eyewitness, Mr. Edet Jack, said on Monday that the injured victims of the collapsed market wall were moved to Immanuel General Hospital, Eket for medical attention, while the two women that died had been removed from the area. He added that some victims who were thought to have also died in the incident, were revived on arrival at the hospital. Our correspondent learnt that some sections of the 60 years old market was renovated three years ago by government. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, said during a press conference in Uyo on Wednesday that families of the victims of the collapsed church building had besieged different hospitals for the corpses.  He added that the rumoured mass burial for victims almost resulted in their families attacking medical personnel in different hospitals.  The commissioner stated that corpses would be released to their family members as soon as the police concluded its investigation.  Ukpong put the official figures of those who died during the incident at 26. The special assistant to the state governor on media has come out on Sunday 11th December to explain exactly how the governor escaped death on Saturday at Reigners Bible church Inc. According to him on his Facebook timeline "I have come across series of news reports and speculations on some media platforms concerning the accident at the Reigners Church Building along Uyo Village road". The reports which are clearly very misleading, allege that an aide of His Excellency the Governor lost his life while attempting to rescue the Governor from the rubbles of the collapsing Church building. Let it be known that I am still in shock on the unfortunate disaster that rocked our dear state and I grief for the loss of our beloved people, but  at no time did anyone die while trying to rescue His Excellency the Governor. The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has ordered the immediate arrest of the contractors and engineers that constructed the Reigners Bible Church International Inc, Uyo, which collapsed on Saturday, killing scores of people. Specifically, one of the personal assistants to the governor on media, Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr, who spoke with  CNN’s  correspondent Becky Anderson, said the governor gave the order on Sunday. “They should be made to answer certain questions so that the state would be able to get to the root cause of the matter,” the governor was quoted as saying. The governor’s call came on the heels of a similar call by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for a probe of the disaster. Saraki, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, on Sunday, commiserated with the people of Akwa Ibom over the incident. Alexander Okere, Benin Fire on Sunday razed a popular shopping mall, Phill-Hallmark Supermarket, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, ‎destroying several goods worth billions of naira. It was gathered that the fire started at about 2am, when only a few of the staff were present. It was learnt that the inferno completely destroyed the four floors of the main building, while an extension of the mall was partly burnt. Several goods worth billions of naira were said to have been affected by the fire. The supermarket houses several sections, including a boutique, bakery, food and beverages as well as home appliances‎. It was also said to have over 50 employees and had recently undergone a major renovation. President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Sunday sympathised with victims of the uncompleted Reigners Bible Church, which collapsed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday. He also called for investigation into the cause of the collapse, which caused the death of about 200 persons and injured many others.
