Google today announced that it has reached the 1 million milestone in its Digital Skills programme. On the 16th of April 2016, the company committed to training 1 million Africans on digital skills within a year. Today, it confirmed that it has reached its target early, and has set itself to train even more Africans in digital skills in the coming year. An 8-month-old baby boy was stabbed by his reportedly mentally-sick mother and brought into the ward for surgery with the knife still stuck in the boy’s abdomen, at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA), Abakaliki, in Ebonyi State. Though there full details of the incident as the suspect, who was said to be a wife of a serving police Sergeant, was said to have been taken to hospital for treatment, it was gathered that the incident happened at the police barracks, Abakaliki. It was gathered that the woman who allegedly has periodic major mental disorder pierced her baby’s stomach with kitchen knife and left the knife stuck in the baby’s stomach when somebody saw it and raised the alarm that attracted neigbours. An eyewitness and a medical practitioner at the Federal Teaching Hospital, who pleaded anonymity, said the baby was brought into the emergency ward with the knife still stuck in his stomach while he had lost so much blood. Tragedy struck at the National Assembly on Monday as a  senior staff of the Management, Mr. Mohammed Shuaibu, slumped and died in the premises. The cause of death remained unknown as of the time of filing this report. Mohammed, who was the Clerk to the House of Representatives Committee on Agricultural Production Services, died after he complained of experiencing some discomfort. Findings indicated that the deceased drove himself to to work on Monday, ahead of a scheduled meeting of the committee. However, while he was in the office preparing for the meeting, he reportedly complained of the discomfort and slumped almost immediately. He was promptly rushed to the National Assembly Clinic for medical attention, but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival at the clinic. He was about 55 years old. Bauchi State Government has ordered the closure of the ‘Sa’adu Zungur’ model primary and secondary school. This followed discovery that some senior students conduct illegal marriages among themselves within the school. Although male and female students study in separate classes in the school, attention of the management was drawn to such illegal marriages last week when an SS2 student (name withheld) organised an illegal wedding ceremony in classrooms. Male students paid N500 as dowry to their female counterparts as precondition for their marriages, while classmates of both the ‘grooms and brides’ contribute money for refreshments at the ceremonies usually conducted secretly. The cheers and noise reportedly attracted teachers who were still within the school premises after learning hours. Great tragedy befell a family of four  on Friday  resulting in the death of three of its members with one member in the hospital. 16-year-old twins, Brittany Coffland and Tiffany Coffland and their 48-year-old father, Randall Coffland were shot dead in their home on South First Street, St. Charles, Canada, in what has been described by police as a domestic related incident. The girls' mother, Anjum Coffland, 46, who lives in a different residence though still married to the children's father, was also shot in the house. However, her injury was non-life-threatening and she has been stabilised in the hospital. The police said that they got a call from a neighbour of the family at about  5:15 p.m.   on Friday reporting that shots were fired in the apartment. Later another call was made to 911 from inside the house. Police responded to the calls only to find the twins and their father dead while the mother was alive. Rumour has it the next TECNO PhonePad will be a premium phablet and it is set to be released. Sources say it may be coming with a 3GB RAM as well as a Fingerprint sensor for added security.
